November 23, 2024 on the Farm

Dear fellow farm members,

This past Saturday was a chilly day! and we have much to be thankful for:

The tractor team composted Kildeer.

Terry loaded the manure spreader with the front loader, from a pile of horse manure from Sue’s farm down the road, which Mike brought over to Julia’s land last summer and MarkA and Kacee inoculated with biodynamic preps. Pete spread the manure with the solar tractor.

A shout-out to Pete who has become a member AND signed up to be on the winter care animal team! Welcome Pete! Thank you for bringing your calm, steady presence and dedication to the farm. Karen and Hanna prepared more cardboard and Carolyn will be bringing more this coming week.

The bees are all wrapped up for the winter (thank you Eileen)! There are 8 hives to winter over. Tom has started to build a storage area for boards in the upper Wilfred loft The plan is to remove all the excess wood from the Miriam hay loft.  We warmed up our hands with hot coffee and energy balls (thank you Karen!).

Next Wednesday and Saturday will be work days for those who are willing and able. I will be away but Karen, Terry and Pete will be here on the wednesday before thanksgiving and Kacee will be here as well, on the saturday after Thanksgiving. Caitlin will cover animal care. Steering committee meetings will resume in december. Thank you all for being part of this community and have a lovely Thanksgiving!

Add to your calendar: Creature Caroling on December 23, 3:30-4:30. We gather near the stalls in lower Miriam and sing to the animals (and share warm drinks). A wonderful activity for children all ages.
