November 20, 2024 on the Farm

Last wednesday was a soggy work day. Margarete, Niko, and Nigel helped take down the fencing around Spring Garden, roll it up and put it in the barn. Found more praying mantis cacoons!

Fencing in! stored behind the beautiful curtain (thanks Abby :-)!

We also cleaned up beds in Old Pasture. It was easy to uproot the old tomato and squash vines and clumps of grass from the damp soil. We made good headway and went inside afterward to have hot gluten-free ginger bread and coffee.

Niko, Karen and Nigel, cleaning up Old Pasture. In addition to finding squash and a few tomatoes, there is a row of parsley alongside the chard. And, of course, kale! and cilantro.

The Steering Committee met and took care of filing out a laborious online form for the government. Thank you Linda!
Update on Animal Care: unfortunately our winter care team, Ayla and Niko, are not able to stay, due to personal and family circumstances. Caitlin and Lucia will step in, but we need additional members on the winter care team. If you are interested and able to be part of this aspect of the farm, please let me know asap.

Next saturday we will work in Old Pasture and Kildeer.. Mike VanRiper will compost the hay field in the coming weeks, weather permitting.
